A Personal Journey: Why the Memory Care Foundation Matters to Me

By Rhonda Young, Executive Director, Memory Care Foundation

As I sit down to think about why I started this foundation, I’m reminded of the countless moments that have shaped my journey—not just as a caregiver but as a daughter, navigating the heartache and hope that comes with progressive memory loss. Unfortunately, both of my parents faced this difficult path, and their experience is what inspired me to create this new community. I learned so much along the way, lessons that went beyond medication management, doctor’s appointments, and caregiving. It was the emotional, mental, and even spiritual growth that transformed me into the leader I am today.

Being a caregiver is not something anyone can truly prepare for. Caregiving challenges your patience, tests your limits, and pushes you to be more than you thought possible. However, caregiving also builds resilience and, in a strange way, fosters a deep, beautiful connection with your loved ones. Along my journey, I learned that none of us can do this alone. We need a village, a community of people who understand, who care, and who can provide not just support but compassion. That’s what I want the Memory Care Foundation to be for you, a partner on your journey, a part of your village.

At Memory Care Foundation, we’re here to provide more than just financial assistance through our Compassionate Support Grants. We want to give you a place where you feel seen, heard, and feel a sense of belonging.

I know how isolating it can feel when a loved one starts to decline cognitively, when your role in their life shifts, and when the future seems uncertain. But we are stronger together! By creating a network of support, resources, and community, I believe we can ease some of the burdens that come with caregiving. My mission is personal, born out of the love and care I gave to my own family, and my hope is that this foundation will serve as a beacon of hope for yours.

Thank you for trusting the Memory Care Foundation to be part of your journey. I’m excited for what we can accomplish as a community, and I look forward to walking this path with you.

Warmly,

Rhonda Young
